Fall fashions for stay-at-home moms

Fall fashion for mommies isn’t all about hoodies and sweatpants. Though comfort is important, you can look casual and comfortable without being sloppy. Whether you are hanging out at the house, heading to a playgroup or spending the day at the park, incorporate some of these fall fashions into your stay-at-home wardrobe.

Patent ballet flats

Toss aside your sneakers and slip into a pair of adorable ballet flats in shiny faux patent leather (ice cream spills and spit-up wipe away easily). Instead of black, try chocolate brown, olive green and deep burgundy. If the weather is wet wear you live, invest in a durable pair of waterproof winter boots, too. And just because they are practical doesn’t mean they can’t be cute: Look for warm boots with faux fur trim and shiny stud accents.

Cardigan sweaters

Layering is essential in the fall, when mornings and evenings can be cool but midday warms up. Instead of an oversized hoodie or slouchy pullover sweater, pick up a few cardigan sweaters. Cardigans should be neither too thick and bulky nor too thin. Look for soft knit cardigans that can layer over your favorite camis, tanks and tees. You can pair them casually with jeans or with a simple skirt when going out with your hubby or meeting at school.

Trendy diaper bags

Diaper bags need to be practical and durable. Look for bags in strong, spill-proof fabrics with plenty of organizational pockets and compartments. Bottle holders and wipe pockets should be on the exterior of the bag for convenience. Fortunately, many designers make diaper bags in bright colors and fun prints that aren’t just useful but chic, too. Some diaper bags also come with a separate padded, waterproof compartment for your netbook, iPad or other electronics. These multi-purpose bags are perfect for mommies on the go.

Minimalistic pants

Jeans and sweat pants are comfy and practical, but this season you can find minimalist pants in jersey knits that are ideal for fall. These pants are created from soft fabrics with elastic waistbands for wearability and comfort. You don’t need to get into the “harem” trend with your crotch hanging to your knees, but there are plenty of other options this season when it comes to comfortable pants.

Shirtdresses

Even when you are chasing toddlers around the playground, you can be comfortable and look fabulous in a shirtdress. This fall, you’ll find shirtdresses in a variety of fabrics from twill to linen to knits. These dresses are very easy to wear because you can just throw them on with a pair of flats, grab your bag and get out the door. You’ll always look pulled together and effortlessly chic in an easy-to-wear shirtdress.
