Best time to travel: Five fabulous fall destinations

by

Vermont

You can’t go wrong with Vermont in the fall — the entire state is brimming with rich fall colors. Vermont’s variety of trees, including maples, oaks and birches standing amid rolling hills and rural landscapes, create a brilliant explosion of color and some of the most iconic views of the season, in a state known for its fall leaves. The leaves began to change color in mid-September and peak in October, with higher elevations seeing the color change first. View the dramatic colors hiking or on horseback, in a hot-air balloon or go “flight”-seeing on a helicopter or small plane tour. When you’re taking in the breathtaking fall views, how about some apple picking? Here’s a detailed map of where to go to pick apples and peak harvest dates.
