Everything from spilled pop to sweet and sugary foods can leave an icky, gooey mess on your countertops and there’s nothing worse than a sticky, stained surface. The next time your kitchen’s surfaces feel a bit off, try a few of these quick and easy how-to tricks:
Step 1: Clear clutter
The first step toward getting your kitchen countertops spic and span is to clear them of clutter. Remove any objects that could get in your way of wiping the entire surface down.
Step 2: Reach for the right cleaning products
Most all-purpose cleaners will get your countertops clean. If you’re looking for a more natural solution, water and vinegar will also do the trick. Either solution will clear your counter of stains while also busting any bacteria that may have grown on its sticky surface.
Step 3: Spray it on
Now that you’re armed with your cleaning solution, spray a large amount of it over the offending surface. Let it sit on the counter for several minutes (this will help the grime-fighting ingredients break up any of the sugars that have bound themselves to the counter).
Step 4: Get wiping
After several minutes, grab a damp cloth or sponge and start wiping the cleaning solution away. Start at one end of the counter and move to another. Continue wiping until the surface is clean. Rinse your rag with warm water and squeeze it dry in between wipes so it can absorb all of the cleaning solution.
Step 5: Repeat as needed
If your counter isn’t spotless after this process, repeat until it is. Once all of the grime has been removed from your counter’s surface, dry it with a tea towel.
