10 Reasons to sell your home in the New Year

You may have loved the “perfect house” when you bought it, but your home may now be a major source of stress. You may not even be able to put your finger on why, but something tells you that your abode just isn’t right. Here are 10 reasons to sell your home – after all, it’s a new year, and selling may be the best resolution you make.

Purchase error

Do you just feel like you made a mistake and want to rectify it? Perhaps that larger yard has turned out to be more costly, with weekly maintenance. Or maybe you you were so in love with the house you forgot about your surroundings and didn’t realize you’d be dealing with the nearby train or airport noise pollution.

Bigger, more expensive home

Did you long for a larger, more expensive upscale home and now lie awake at night worrying about how you are going to make your payments? The grass isn’t always greener on the other side of the fence, especially if your budget is stretched tight meeting your mortgage every month. Sell, save yourself some money and improve your nightly rest.

Too small

First time homebuyers often outgrow their starter home. Have you had a couple of kiddos? A growing family is a great reason to sell.

Job transfer

Job change is a major reason to sell! If you’re like most people, you certainly don’t want to deal with traffic on those extra-long daily commutes.

Life change

Ready to hit the road and travel the world? Have your goals in life changed? Travel light and sell your home. If you don’t need a home base, so to speak, home ownership loses its priority status.

DIY dread

If you feel overwhelmed by the repairs that need to be done on your home, keep in mind that remodeling is for a select few. It’s a long process and choosing to sell may be a less stressful and more economical choice.

Relationship changes

Going through “The Big D”? Divorce is often a reason people sell their home. On the other hand, you may want to sell if you are moving in with a partner; perhaps both of you need to sell in order to buy a home that is suitable for you both.

Neighborhood

Times change and the economy has certainly had an impact on communities. If your neighborhood has changed, selling can be a great idea.

Empty nester

The older you get the harder it becomes to maintain a house. When your kids are grown and out of the house, a smaller home may be just what you need.

Health

Physical ailments can make it difficult to climb stairs in a two-story. If you’re dealing with chronic physical illnesses or are getting older and worry about climbing stairs, selling your home and buying a single-story may be more practical.
