How to update your color for spring

by

Whether you’re looking to lighten up your hair color or are dying to debut a brand-new shade, spring is the perfect opportunity to make a change.

“As far as I’m concerned, it’s the best time to start going blonder,” says Chelsea Jaymes, a colorist at Los Angeles’ Chop Chop Salon. “Think warm, like the spring weather!” she advises.

Here are the hot new hues to try to this season:

BLONDES

Think beach babe this season. The trend is really to stick within two shades lighter than your natural locks. “Blondes can also ask for a full head of highlights instead of just half to make a noticeable difference that still looks very natural,” says Jaymes.

BRUNETTES

“Brunettes should ask for a few face framing highlights, just enough to look like you’ve been out in the sun,” Jaymes says. She also suggests the ombre look. “As far as techniques go, I’ve found that a little can go a long way. A few extra foils or an all over toner for some warmth can be a perfect change for the season.”

REDHEADS

According to Jaymes, “copperberry” is the biggest new trend for ginger tones. “The past few weeks I have had my blonde clients wanting some red, and my redhead clients wanting some blonde. Some of the photos brought in for reference have been of Amy Adams and Deborah Ann Woll. It’s not quite strawberry blonde, not quite copper, but somewhere in the middle,” says Jaymes.
