Spring shoe trends

by

Every spring, as the weather warms up and the flowers start blooming, a new array of fabulous spring shoes sprout up at the mall. What makes this spring’s shoes special? You’ll have the opportunity to try several vintage looks with a new, modern twist.

Candy-Colored Hues

You may feel like you’re shopping for shoes in a ’50s-inspired soda shop this spring with the number of trendy styles coming in colors like gumball pink, yellow, purple, orange, green and blue. Wear your sweetly colored kicks with a wrap dress or long, wide-legged jeans for an unexpected, flirty pop of color. Accessorize with an equally bright bangle bracelet or a long chain.

Platform Heels

Your shoes will get an extra boost this spring from a new twist on the old platform heel. Choose a platform in natural colors like brown, tan, khaki or white and opt for lots of straps or woven details to stay on-trend with runway style. Pair with a canvas dress or fit-and-flare floral skirt to complete the look.

Espadrilles

You may or may not fancy yourself a naturalist, but you’ll definitely want to sport the natural look this spring with the wide assortment of espadrilles flooding shoe stores everywhere. Not sure how to wear them? Pair a flat espadrille with jeans and a graphic tee or turn your look nautical with a sundress and wedged espadrilles in navy, red or white.

Buckles and Studs

For a different take on the 80’s punk look, choose strappy heels or clunky boots with buckles, studs, zippers and patent leather accents. If you opt for the heels, they’ll look hot with a little black dress and metallic accessories. More of a boots fan? Pair them with skinny jeans and a long, loose tank. Smoky eyes and sleek hair will keep you looking punk-modern instead of ’80’s rocker.

Flats with Ankle Straps

Perfect for shorts or miniskirts, this season’s flats with ankle straps are a variation on gladiator sandals. If you’re not ready to give up your gladiators, you can breathe easy — they’re still hot for spring, with a few new looks to spruce up your spring style like the strappier, caged look.

Animal Prints

Animal prints are a popular trend this spring, and even if you shy away from wearing animal-inspired patterns, you may want to test out the look with zebra- or tiger- striped shoes. While platform pumps are sure to grab attention, you can pick a more understated flat to pair with form fitting, ankle-length pants and a nice wrap cardigan. Finish off your look with bronze and gold accessories.

Have fun with these fabulous spring shoe trends, but be sure to stay comfortable. Practice walking around the store for at least five minutes before you settle on a pair. If you’re not used to heels, try wedges; they’re generally the easiest heel to walk in.
