Travel agents and vacation magazines all have their destinations to push and commissions to earn — but to discover the vacation spots that are really worth visiting, chat with other women who’ve been there. We did, and here’s what they told us.

Cindy says she took a cross-country trip when she was in her 20s, accompanied by one of her closest friends. “The USA was and still is big, beautiful and amazing. Loved New Orleans, Vegas, the Grand Canyon, Yosemite, Napa, Los Angles and San Francisco. We just kept buying souvenirs! Got back to many of these on later trips — like New Orleans months before Katrina, an amazingly beautiful place.”
Liverpool, u.k.
Erica visited Liverpool a few years ago to see the Beatles landmarks and says it’s one of the cleanest cities she’d ever seen. “It was dirty years ago, but that’s been changed due to the tourism stirred by the Beatles and their fans. I can’t even begin to describe all of the great landmarks there, and I can’t wait to go back again. If you have any doubts or misgivings about going to Liverpool, take a journey there and see for yourself!”
San Antonio, Texas
Arielle thinks San Antonio, Texas, is the best of the best. “The River Walk is beautiful. You take tours on a boat two miles around the river… The tour guide on the boat shows you illusions on buildings. They also have dozens of restaurants on the River Walk and a mall as well. You also have the Alamo, Six Flags, wildlife exhibits, a zoo, Seaworld, Ripley’s Believe It or Not and much more,” she says. “Oh, and this restaurant high in the sky [Tower of the Americas] — you have to take an elevator to get there, and it revolves while you’re eating.”
Florence, italy
Kar’s favorite place is Florence, where her Italian language immersion school’s study-abroad program took her in 1989. “I took a side trip to see friends in Germany, ran around Switzerland, toured northern Italy with my friends who came down from Germany to see me, and spent two full weeks speaking nothing but Italian with my aunt, uncle and cousins in Trieste and Slovenia,” she says. “I was 23 and I traveled on my own. I was in Europe for two months. It was amazing!”
