Sweatproof summer makeup

The hot summer weather will be here before you know it. When the temperatures rise, don’t let it ruin your beauty routine. Follow these beauty tips and tricks to look your best, no matter how hot the weather gets.

Use oil-free moisturizer.

You don’t want the heat to melt your makeup away. Create a solid base with an oil-free moisturizer, and then apply a lightweight foundation suited to your skin type. As an alternative, just use a tinted moisturizer to kill two birds with one stone. If your face tends to get oily quickly, apply a makeup primer first to mattify your skin.

Apply sweatproof foundation.

If you need a litte extra coverage, use a liquid foundation in a sweatproof formula. Several companies make foundation that stays put. One of our favorites is Estee Lauder Double Wear Stay-in-Place Makeup (SPF 10). Check out these other product suggestions for sweatproof makeup.

Keep cosmetics in the refrigerator.

Keep your beauty products in the refrigerator at home, then pop them in your makeup bag before you leave the house. If you have a problem with your eyeliner melting or fading away in the heat, choose powder eye shadow as eyeliner. Use a tiny brush for precise application.

Consider the humidity.

If the warm temperatures bring high humidity to your neck of the woods, you’ll need to take precautions so that your hair doesn’t frizz out. Follow these tips to manage frizzy hair in humid weather. On the flipside, if it’s dry in your area, you’ll need to use an extra-moisturizing shampoo and conditioner to keep your hair healthy and hydrated. Consider cream eyeshadow and blush, as well.

Carry blotting tissues.

No matter how hard you try to keep oil and sweat from ruining your flawless makeup, some will still seep through. Always carry a pack of blotting papers in your purse (and tuck another package in your desk or glove box). In a pinch, you can use a toilet seat cover to blot away oil and leave your makeup intact.

Prep your feet.

Sandal weather is here. Get your feet in tiptop shape with a professional pedicure. If you have dry, cracked heels, make them soft and healthy again by applying foot cream nightly and wearing socks to bed. Check out these other tips to get your feet ready for sandal season.

Try a messy updo.

Fortunately, the unfinished look is in. If the heat and humidity leave your locks looking limp, try a messy updo. Apply pomade or dry shampoo to give you hair a little texture. Follow this video tutorial to create a quick, messy bun updo.
