15 Ways to refresh your home for summer

by

Summer is fast approaching and we know you can’t wait for warm weather to finally arrive. We feel the same way! So while you’re passing the time before it’s warm enough to lounge on the patio, why not spend some time refreshing your home decor to welcome a brand-new season? Check out some of our cheap and chic tips for updating your space for summer.

Give windows a wash

You can’t expect to let the summer sun in through windows caked with winter debris. Now is the perfect time to start scrubbing and ensure your windows are sparkling in time for warmer weather. Not only will the sun shine through brighter, the whole house will look – and feel — refreshed.

Opt for lighter textiles

Lighten up your space by trading heavier textiles – rugs, throws, pillow shams – for lighter ones. Winter means staying warm and cozy but if you really want to welcome summer it’s a good idea to store — or give away — anything dark or heavy. Replace deep reds, browns and plums with brighter colors and airy fabrics.

Bring the outdoors in

Think about decorating with garden-inspired elements like antique gardening tools hung on the wall. Groupings of clay pots filled with tea lights or arranged on the countertop to hold kitchen tools looks whimsical and summer-fresh.

Focus on florals

One of the best things about summer is the abundance of colorful blooms always within easy reach. Instantly refresh every room by adding fresh-cut flowers in a rainbow of hues. Add depth and texture by playing with different-size vases or grouping smaller vases together.

Smell like summer

Make sure to trade any hand soap, dish soap and shower gel with a winter or holiday scent (cinnamon, pine, nutmeg) for fresher, fruitier varieties. We love peppermint or citrus.
