Lady Gaga is featured for the third time on this month’s issue of Rolling Stone. Let’s take a look back at a few of her most memorable magazine covers.
Another day, another Lady Gaga magazine cover. This time, the Born This Way mega-seller is on the cover of Rolling Stone.
We have to admit, we’re more into this cover than many of her previous magazine covers — the Harpar’s Bazaar cover included.
In the issue — on shelves now — Gaga talks about everything from performing to Rocky Balboa to fitness.
“Being myself in public was very difficult,” Gaga wrote of the beginnings of her now-famous public persona. “I was being poked and probed and people would actually touch me and touch my clothes and be like, ‘What the [expletive] is that,’ just so awful. It was like I was being bullied by music lovers, because they couldn’t possibly believe that I was genuine.”
We certainly haven’t been devoid of Lady Gaga magazine coverage in recent months. Here are just a sampling of the magazines she’s been featured on lately.
Harpar’s Bazaar
Lady Gaga graced the May 2011 cover of Harpar’s Bazaar and dished on everything from the late Alexander McQueen to her eschewing of plastic surgery.
“I have never had plastic surgery, and there are many pop singers who have,” she said. “I think that promoting insecurity in the form of plastic surgery is infinitely more harmful than an artistic expression related to body modification.”
I am an artist,” Gaga continued. “And I have the ability and the free will to choose the way the world will envision me.”
V Magazine
Lady Gaga had three heads on the Asia issue of V Magazine. It seemed to be a play on her different style personalities — and she’s not shy about claiming her expert fashion status.
“Glam culture is ultimately rooted in obsession, and those of us who are truly devoted and loyal to the lifestyle of glamour are masters of its history,” Gaga wrote in her first column for the magazine.
“Or, to put it more elegantly, we are librarians. I myself can look at almost any hemline, silhouette, beadwork, or heel architecture and tell you very precisely who designed it first, what French painter they stole it from, how many designers reinvented it after them, and what cultural and musical movement parented the birth, death, and resurrection of that particular trend. So dear critics and bullies: get your library cards out, because I’m about to do a reading.”
Rolling Stone
Lady Gaga covered the magazine just a year ago — right around the time she was blasted for acting like a brat at a New York Mets game.
However, her rebel side was hidden in the article — she even claimed to suffer from self-esteem issues.
“When I wake up in the morning, I feel just like any other insecure 24-year-old girl,” she says. “Then I say, ‘[Expletive,] you’re Lady Gaga, you get up and walk the walk today.'”
Love her or hate her: you have to admit she’s making her mark on fashion.
