Decorating Diva: Celebrate the 4th of July in style

by

Blue

We’re betting on blue to take our Independence Day celebrations to new heights.

Festive vase filler

One of the simplest ways to add a splash of blue to your home is to fill glass vases in varying shapes and sizes with brightly colored blue pebblettes (Crate & Barrel, $5). The tiny blue pebbles can be added to any glass container on their own or to accompany a red or white candle.

Stoneware pitcher

Serve your favorite festive beverages from this Le Creuset pitcher (Williams Sonoma, $40) in a bold shade of blue. The stoneware pitcher will look lovely on your 4th of July table and keep your summer sips of choice perfectly chilled.

Outdoor dining set

Ideally you’ll get to enjoy your Independence Day party outdoors, having fun in the fresh air. Rather than using breakable plates, opt for something that won’t be prone to potential accidents. We love this 13-piece navy blue dinnerware set (Bed, Bath & Beyond, $15) as a fast and easy way to add festive color to your table.

Other ways to add red, white and blue

  • Pick up dollar-store frames and paint them in your color of choice – all one color or some of each in red, white and blue. Print off some family photos and create a festive display on a wall everyone will see.
  • Buy a large piece of unbleached kraft paper (available at most art supply stores) and have your kids paint a red, white and blue mural. Hang your new patriotic masterpiece in the entryway as a fun 4th of July welcome to guests.
  • White tea lights in red and blue candleholders add easy, affordable ambiance.
  • Red and white flowers in bold blue vases on every table or grouped together as a centerpiece are a stylish and summery way to add Independence Day color.
