Travel Canada with Will and Kate

Now that the royal wedding is over and Will and Kate are back from their exotic honeymoon, it’s time for them to get down to business. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are gearing up for their first royal tour – and they’re heading to Canada. In honor of Prince William and Princess Catherine’s nine-day whirlwind through five Canadian provinces and seven cities, we wanted to highlight each of their stops and let you in on some of the best attractions to visit in each, in case you want to follow in the royal tour footsteps this summer.

Ottawa

Will and Kate will descend on Canada’s capital on June 30, just in time for Canada Day. The royal couple will likely make this nation’s birthday bash even more of a draw (after all, who doesn’t want to see what Kate will be wearing?).

Why visit: Besides being Canada’s capital, this clean, vibrant city is full of unique attractions that make for a worthwhile getaway. The easygoing nature of the city stems from a great mix of green space and urban charm – perfect for the traveler who needs some fresh air with their fun. A myriad of interesting museums, diverse neighbourhoods and cute cafes make this a city worth seeing.

What to see and do

  • Parliament Hill: Make sure you check out Canada’s parliament buildings – a stately mix of neo-gothic buildings that house the nation’s government.
  • Rideau Canal: Take a leisurely stroll (or brisk jog) along Ottawa’s historic waterway that winds through the heart of the city. The picturesque canal is also a Unesco World Heritage Site.
  • ByWard Market: Make sure you’ve got your shopping shoes on for a trip through this historic farmer’s market and shopping district. Pick up farm-fresh produce, flowers, souvenirs and more from morethan 175 outdoor vendors.
  • National Gallery of Canada: A visit to Canada’s largest art gallery – and an architectural marvel in itself – makes for a nice afternoon filled with Canadian art and well-known international pieces.
