5 Summer trends we’re taking into fall

Summer is just beginning but that doesn’t mean the fashion fiends at SheKnows aren’t already thinking ahead to what we’ll be wearing come fall. With that in mind, we’ve weeded through our most favorite hot weather trends to come up with the ones we’re pretty sure we won’t be able to live without past Labor Day. Check them out and see if you agree with our picks.

Bright bags

Though they are inherently summery due to being vibrantly hued, we plan to continue toting our bright bags straight into fall. After all, there’s no rule that states neutrals are the only way to go come September and if there is, we hereby deem it a silly rule. Bright bags are worth keeping around past August for their ability to take any outfit from drab to fab. Sporting all black? Add a cute clutch in an eye-popping shade of pink and all of a sudden, your look has been kicked up a notch.

Check out some of our picks for beautifully bright bags.

Nautical stripes

Nautical stripes have been one of the top trends of the season, for good reason. We’ve seen them on everything from shoes and swimsuits to dresses and tank tops and the result is a look that’s both sophisticated and playful. We’re just not quite ready to part with this sassy style, so we’ll be taking some of our favorites with us into fall. Here’s how:

  • Throw a fitted blazer over a striped tank and wear with wide leg trousers and flats.
  • Pair a striped dress with tights and a cropped denim jacket for a fresh take on this summer favorite.
  • Jazz up neutral outfits with subtle stripy splashes – a bangle, hair clip or belt are simple ways to do this.

Flirty florals

What can we say; we have a serious soft spot for florals, which made style headway in the spring but just kept on going strong as the weather heated up. Feminine and fashionable, floral print is like a breath of fresh air on everything from skirts and sandals to sundresses and tote bags. Rather than go all-out come fall with head-to-toe petal power, use our favorite flirty print sparingly.

Try this: A floral blouse tucked into high waisted pants and paired with stacked heels looks tailored and transitions perfectly from summer to fall. Or try wearing a floral tunic over skinny black pants, cinched at the waist with a thin, braided belt. The idea is to remain loyal to floral without looking like you fell into a patch of petunias.

Animal print

We saw animal print slowly take over the summer style stage after gaining momentum this spring. Earlier this summer we saw Reese Witherspoon and new Transformers hottie Rosie Huntington-Whitley wow in animal print at the MTV Movie Awards and other celebs have been hot on their heels as the weather heats up. This trend is probably one of the easiest to take past summer because despite its wild side, animal print is neutral by nature, making it easy to pair with your favorite fall looks.

Take a look at some of the animal print styles that caught our eye.

Mega metallics

Once the sunny days turn cold, don’t expect us to give up on our love of metallics. This is one trend that we fell for immediately and don’t plan on parting with for a while. We’ve seen Heidi Klum rock the look and Blake Lively make it look effortless, but if you’ve been afraid to make a metallic move, it’s easier than you think to look stellar in silver, gold and bronze. Incorporate one piece into your outfit to ease into the trend just in time for fall. Shoes are a good place to start, as is statement jewelry (think cuffs or multi-chain necklaces) and skinny belts.
