Sew a simple, chic slipcover

You can’t always change your decor as often as you’d like. How about a quick fix? Updating your throw pillows satisfies your decor-lust and is super easy on the pocketbook, too. Designer pillows can cost a small fortune, but you may be surprised to learn it is super easy to make your own strikingly gorgeous pillow slipcovers without breaking the bank. Find out how!

You will need these supplies to make one slipcover for a 20″ x 20″ pillow:

• Sewing machine
• 1 yard (any weight) fabric
• ¾ yard knit fabric (I used matte polyester jersey)
• 2 yards of 1.5″ grosgrain ribbon
• 1 rhinestone button
• Cardstock
• Thread, scissors, measuring tape, marking pen, pins
• Iron, ironing board
• 1- 20″ x 20″ pillow form

Step one:

Measure and cut out fabric squares —

• Front of pillow – 19″ x 19″
• Back of pillow (top) – 14″ x 19″
• Back of pillow (bottom) – 10″ x 19″

Step two:

Create pattern for petals — Using a piece of card stock, create a rectangle measuring 4″ x 5″. Mark the middle and measure 2″ down on the sides. Cut a curved line starting on the middle mark and ending where you marked 2″ down. Repeat on opposite side. Trace onto another card, trimming 2″ off the bottom of the flat end (for the smaller petals), then trace and cut out 44 large petals and 24 small petals.

Step three:

Gather the petals on your sewing machine by setting your machine tension to as high as it will go and setting your stitch length as long as possible. Gather the petals in one long chain, overlapping each petal 1″ on top of each other. For the 44 large petals, you should end up with 44″ of petals. For the 24 smaller petals, you should have 24″ of petals.
