Sew a simple, chic slipcover

Step four:

Mark the front of your pillow where you want your flower to go. I prefer off kilter versus right in the center, but do as you wish. Use an appetizer-sized plate to trace a circle.

Starting at the bottom of your circle, stitch down a circle of petals. Draw another smaller circle about ¾” inside the circle of petals. Sew another ring of petals. Repeat until your petal strand is used up, then do the same with the garland of smaller petals. You should have just enough to get to the center. If you run out, make more garland. If you have too much, trim off the excess. Sew your decorative button right in the middle.

Step five:

If you’ve used floppy fabric (like I did), you may have to tack up some of the petals on the top of your flower. Don’t try to be too perfect, just choose five or six of the droopiest petals and give them a stitch or two to hold them in place.

Step six:

Prepare back pieces by narrow hemming the bottom edge on the big piece and the top edge on the smaller piece.
