Pretty Little Things: My summer staples

Welcome to Pretty Little Things, where each week we bring you our picks for the prettiest little things online. If we love it, you’ll be the first to know! This week we take a look at some of the things I can’t live without in the summer.

Hot weather must-haves

Summer is flying by at breakneck speed, so before we’re all wearing winter coats again, I thought I’d share some of the hot weather items I can’t live without this season. Check them out.

1. Tote (Anthropologie, $68), 2. Dress (Zara, $30),
3. Polish (ULTA, $8), 4. Sandals (Opening Ceremony, $290),
5. Bangle (Charm & Chain, $40), 6. Gloss (Cargo Cosmetics, $20)

Oversize tote

Even though I wear less in the summer, I seem to carry more. I can’t help it – I feel naked without an oversize tote. I’m currently using a playful polka dot style but it’s sadly starting to fall apart, so now I’m eyeing this gray striped nautical-inspired tote (Anthropologie, $68). I love the fact that it’s slouchy and looks perfectly worn in.

Breezy sundress

As soon as it’s warm enough to do away with pants, I make the switch to sundresses. My closet is bursting with breezy, beat-the-heat styles in a variety of prints but that doesn’t mean I don’t have room for one more. And the best part is sundresses are on sale, like this pretty floral frock I love (Zara, $30).

Eye-popping polish

Summer is all about showing off brightly polished fingers and toes – and in my case, especially toes, so one of my biggest hot weather must haves is brightly-hued polish. I can’t get enough of Essie’s Big Spender, an eye-popping shade of fuchsia (ULTA, $8).

Strappy flats

As much as I adore heels (and wear them often), there’s something about strappy flats that I really love in the summer. They seem to go with everything from sundresses to jeans, and lately I’m really crushing on these super-cute metallic leather sandals (Opening Ceremony, $290).

Bright bangles

What better time of year to wear an armload of brightly colored bangles than during the summer? You don’t have to spend a lot – just buy some bracelets that make you smile. I love this squared off Kenneth Jay Lane bangle in a cheerful shade of coral (Charm & Chain, $40).

Glossy lips

Like perfectly polished nails, having a subtly glossed pout is a summer must for me. I can’t stand anything sticky but love the look of a slight sheen. My current go-to gloss is Cargo Cosmetics PlantLove Lip Gloss ($20) that offers high shine without the sticky feeling.
