Pretty Little Things: 5 Stylish coats for fall

Welcome to Pretty Little Things, where each week we bring you our picks for the prettiest little things online. If we love it, you’ll be the first to know! This week we’re taking a look at some of the cutest fall coats in anticipation of the chilly days ahead.

Coveting coats

While no style obsession rivals my love of shoes, I would probably have a closet full of coats if I had the space or money for it. I love coats – especially fall coats – in a wide variety of colors and designs and always find myself crushing on more than a few as summer comes to an end. Here are some of my most recent must-haves.

Coral dress coat

As soon as I spied this gorgeous coral dress coat (Anthropologie, $288), I fell in love. The A-line cut gives it a decidedly early 1960s vibe and the fresh, bright color and three quarter length sleeves make this a great transition coat between summer and early fall. I especially love the ring of arrows along the hem – a playful feature that’s sure to get noticed.

Pea coat

I can’t resist pea coats and this classic style (J. Crew, $258) is exactly what I’m looking for. I love the slim silhouette (boxy just doesn’t look good on anyone) and the fact that this cute coat comes in several great colors including navy, charcoal, beige, peony (a bold fuchsia) and honey (a rich shade of yellow). Now I just have to stop myself from buying every fabulous hue.

Duffle coat

Spice up your outerwear collection with this stylish Calvin Klein duffle coat in a fabulous shade of green (Nordstrom, $198). The removable hood is a nice feature and the fact this coat is fully lined means it will work well into fall to keep the chill at bay. It also comes in black for anyone wanting to go a bit more basic, but I am partial to the vibrant shade of green.

Drop-waist coat

While I understand the appeal of neutral-hued coats, I also appreciated having something in a more eye-catching color, which is why this belted, drop-waist style in a punchy shade of purple caught my eye (Victoria’s Secret, $148). I love the oversize buttons (so cute) and the slim fitting silhouette of this lovely fall layer.

Asymmetrical button coat

If I do opt for a coat in a neutral hue, I feel it should have some flair, and this sleek Soia & Kyo grey wool blend coat (Bluefly.com, $270) offers something practical and wearable – with a twist. I love the oversize collar and asymmetrical button front, which give this elegant coat some added interest. I also love that you can have fun accessorizing a gray coat – bright red mitts and scarf here I come!
