Throw a Labor Day weekend white party

P. Diddy has one every year — why shouldn’t you? Labor Day weekend is suppose to be the end to your summer wardrobe — when you’re supposed to pack up those cute white shorts you bought in June and the white bathing suit that you strutted around in at the pool this summer and bring out the fall sweaters and chunky scarves. Get your friends together for one last party to wear all those fun white summer pieces!

Invitation

Set the mood for your white party with the perfect invitation — this black and white paper invitation from Tiny Prints is actually intended for an open house, but those crisp silhouettes are sure to get the theme across and you can easily customize this invitation online. Don’t forget to include details about the white dress code — are guest required to wear all white? Or is mostly white acceptable?

Ambiance

Consider having your white party at dusk, just as the sun is going down and the moon is going up — fill your house with the soft glow of candlelight or your patio with pretty white lights (even bust out those white holiday lights from the garage!) to create a vibe that’s sexy and chic.

Food

Serving all white foods for your White Party might prove challenging (unless you’re OK with a menu of white cheddar mac n’ cheese, white rice, cauliflower and mashed potatoes). That said, instead consider a menu that will be easy for your guests to eat in their all-white attire — stay away from super-messy dishes like BBQ ribs, chips and salsa, and anything else that is certain to drip down the front of their clothes and leave a stain (how tragic would that be?).

Beverages

Drinks, on the other hand, can go right along with the theme. The obvious choices are white wine, light sodas and clear liquors such as vodka and gin. But don’t stop there — use this party as an excuse to create some fun, creative cocktails. Try a white sangria, which uses white wine instead of red or whip up batches of white Russians, made with fresh cream.

Décor

When it comes to décor for your White Party, think chic. Want to go all-out? Purchase inexpensive white curtains from IKEA or buy white fabric in bulk from your local fabric store and create a pure white haven — almost like you’re having your party in a huge, private cabana. Attach the fabric from ceiling to floor using adhesive tape (pick the kind that easily pulls away from the walls when you’re done) for an easy transformation that will wow your guests. You can also easily hang white paper poms from your ceiling for a whimsical look — this set of 10 in various sizes from Etsy will cost you $30 and is a quick way to fill up an entire corner of your house or patio. Fill the rest of your house with gorgeous white flowers to complete the look — white roses mixed with lilies, camellia, huge white blooms of white hydrangea and white orchids are all perfect options.

Attire

Last but certainly not least, you’ll need a white outfit! Pull out whatever you have in your closet and don’t be afraid to wear that little white sundress you bought on your last tropical vacation. Pair it with a bright necklace — try a pop of coral or turquoise that will look crisp against your white clothes. Another way to spice up your all-white outfit for the party is to add some colorful shoes — pull out those cute red sandals one last time before tucking them away for the winter or splurge on a pair of cute yellow heels.
