Pretty Little Things: Hot handbags for fall

Welcome to Pretty Little Things, where each week we bring you our picks for the prettiest little things online. If we love it, you’ll be the first to know! From totes to satchels to cute cross-body bags, this week we’re sharing some of the best bags we’ve seen this season.

Bring on the bags

At no time is my urge to shop for accessories stronger than at the beginning of a new season. Then it’s all I can do to stop myself from spending a small (OK, large) fortune on new shoes, bags, belts and boots. To help ease my need for all that’s new, I’ve scoured the web and put together some seriously cute bags I’m pretty sure you’ll love. I know I do!

Newsstand tote

I was immediately struck by the simplicity of this soft leather tote bag (J. Crew, $198). There are enough pockets that I can feel confident all my essentials won’t get lost in an abyss (come on keys, where are you?!) and the classic design gives this go-anywhere carry-all a timeless quality I love. For days I just need a bag that not only holds everything but that also goes with anything – this is my pick.

Leather-bound clutch

I like to have at least one bag that’s bursting with color, for days I feel like adding a get-noticed element to a neutral outfit. This cute turquoise clutch is perfect for injecting your accessory collection with a little something extra (Anthropologie, $148). It also comes in the equally cheerful shade of lime and if that’s not your color, it comes in silver as well.

Contrast cross-body bag

One look at this tan cross-body bag featuring a shock of bright coral trim (Top Shop, $66) and I knew I was in love (or at least bag-lust). I love the sense of playfulness and fun this bag has, while at the same time being sophisticated enough to take to the office. I’ll be wearing mine with anything from denim and riding boots to all-black ensembles.

Color block bucket bag

Both in fashion and home decor, color block is making a huge splash this season, which is why this elegant bucket bag caught my eye (Asos.com, $64). Timeless in design, there’s also something ultra-modern about this eye-catching bag featuring soft shades of brown, taupe and grayish-blue. This is a great bag for those days you want to look stylish – without trying too hard.

Plaid satchel

I’m a fan of all things plaid (within reason) and I can definitely see why this classic pattern is shaping up to be one of fall’s hottest trends. So you can probably see why I turned my attention to this stylish satchel (Piperlime.com, $188) featuring muted plaid in browns and oranges on the outside that gives this structured bag a decidedly-vintage vibe.
