Top 10 fall shoe trends

If you’re a sassy kind of gal, the fall season’s top shoe trends will be right in step with your own style. Spicy warm colors, suede, straps and spiked heels with bold detail top every fashionista’s must-have lists this year.

Suede

As temperatures cool, style heats up and there’s nothing like the warmth of suede to keep your toes toasty and looking terrific. A top example this season: This hot little pump by Liuchiny that features a suede-wrapped rounded toe and five-inch heel. Look for suede-soaked pumps, wedges and high-shaft boots in spicy reds and orange tones; deep purples, blues and teals; plus neutral hues.

Straps

Straps and buckles dress up all types of footwear from sandals to pumps to boots this season. You’ll see single straps on spike-heeled booties and stacks of straps adorning high-shaft boots. And some favorites, like the caged wedge sandal, are nearly nothing but beautifully crafted straps upon straps. In fact, the cage is all the rage this fall. Open-toed but warmer than the traditional sandal, they’re a great transitional season option. Wear them with skinny jeans or a great pencil-skirted mini dress.

Color block

The summer’s color block designs reminiscent of the 1980s continue to be popular into the fall and winter. Close-toed pumps and wedged booties sport color blocks of slightly heated-up hues and materials from patent or suede leathers to quilted fabrics. We’re crushing on this color blocked, double-platformed and spike-heeled pump with patent and metallic kidskin leather by Ruthie Davis.

Stiletto and spike heels

And by “spiked heels” we mean not only the needle-like high heels themselves, but the sexy, studded detail that screams “girl power” it its own sassy way. This trend is kickin it in this distressed leather with four–inch stiletto heels, pointed platform toes and a studded decorative heel strap by Jessica Simpson. Spikes, studs and other metallic details will add a little edginess to your elegant holiday dresses.

Wedges

This season’s wedges take a non-traditional turn. Hidden wedges give a boost in height minus the clunky feel. But we’re digging the streamlined structure of four-inch, thin-stacked leather blade heel on Matt Bernson’s “Mesa.” It lends a sexy bit of swagger to the conventional wedge. Made of soft suede with a laced up front, this bootie was inspired by the desert workboot, but we guarantee you’ll see lots of these wedge variations at work and at play this season.
