Missoni fans crash Target’s website within minutes

Fans managed to take down Target‘s website Tuesday. How did shoppers cause so much chaos?

Happy Missoni Day, Target shoppers!

The much-anticipated Missoni for Target collection launched today at stores and online at Target.com. Of course, eager shoppers were ready with credit cards in hand to snap up their fair share of the clothes, sheets and accessories.

The result? Fashionistas blew up the Target website, shutting it down for several hours Tuesday morning. Fans were not pleased.

What’s worse? Many Target stores are already sold out of the collection.

“Ladies have their carts piled to the high heavens with Missoni stuff,” tweeted one fan.

“Colleague called me from a Target in Georgia. She spent $800 on Missoni goods this morning,” tweeted another.

Say whaaa? We checked the calendar — and it’s not Black Friday. Target must be raking in the bucks today.

Of course, we get why: Target pairs with mid-range designers, but Missoni is by far the biggest name so far with celebrity fans like Nicole Richie, Rachel Zoe and Ashlee Simpson. With this success, we can likely expect more partnerships with high-end designers — Chanel for Target, anyone?

The Target website is back up now — hurry, before it goes down again!

We’re assuming that even Target wasn’t expecting this sort of turn out — and they probably didn’t expect to sell out within hours. We’ve reached out to Target to find out if they plan on rolling out more supply for those of us who weren’t able to get our Missoni for Target before it sold out (hey, some people have to work in the mornings!)
