Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos officially announced the company’s newest device today — the Amazon Kindle Fire. Consumers expected a reasonable price tag, but it was even lower than anticipated. Keep reading for details about the Kindle Fire.
It’s official: The Kindle Fire, Amazon’s newest gadget, will begin shipping on Nov. 15. Earlier this week, analysts speculated that today was the day for the newest Kindle reveal, and they were correct. Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos saved the best — or at least the newest — item for last at a press conference today.
“Now, I’ve got one more thing to show you,” he said, according to Bloomberg, after he had already showed off the other new Kindles. At that point, he produced the Kindle Fire, the tablet that many have speculated will become an iPad competitor.

While many people have been referring to the newest Kindle as a tablet, Bezos cleared that up: “We don’t think of the Kindle Fire as a tablet. We think of it as a service.”
Highlights of the new Kindle Fire:
- Seven inch display
- 14.6 ounces
- Dual-core processor
- 8 GB of storage
- All content is stored in Cloud for free
- Whispersync for books, movies and television shows
- Wi-Fi only
- No camera
Perhaps the most attractive feature of the Amazon Fire is the price tag. It will sell for just $199.
The Kindle Fire will ship on Nov. 15, but according to USA Today, Bezos closed his press conference with some advice: “We’re making many millions of these,” he said. “But I suggest you order one today.”
