5 DIY spa tips from The Ritz-Carlton Dove Mountain

The holidays are a stressful time of the year, which is why it’s essential that you de-stress when things get too hectic. Relax and rejuvenate with do-it-yourself spa treatments from the Ritz-Carlton Dove Mountain in Marana, Arizona.

Shower in bliss

For a complete aromatherapy at-home experience, add a couple of drops of your favorite essential oil to your faucet or shower head. That soothing oil will help you relax and smell delicious. While you’re in the shower, it’s the best time to exfoliate your face. The warm water and the steam’s moisture soften your face making it easier to thoroughly exfoliate.

Treat hair

Make sure to deep condition your hair once a week and then rinse with cool water to add shine and extend the life of your color.

Prolong manicure

Once you get out of the shower, push back your cuticles and add a drop of cuticle oil. It will keep your cuticles healthy while extending the life of your manicure.

Use sugar scrub

The winter makes skin dry and itchy, which is why it’s important to use a sugar scrub. Make your own sugar scrub with sugar, olive or safflower oil and a couple drops of your favorite essential oil.

The Ritz-Carlton Dove Mountain Spa Director Samantha Malone-Telesford says that using honey in scrubs is very beneficial. “When warmed and mixed with brown sugar or this morning’s coffee grounds, it can be used as an exfoliation,” she says. She also says that when mixed with olive oil and oats, it makes for a great soothing face mask.

Fit in fitness

Fitness may not be the first spa tip that comes to mind, but every little bit can be therapeutic. At the beginning and end of your day, spend 10-15 minutes doing basic stretches or yoga. Use the stairs as much as possible and try to add in a brisk walk at lunch or after dinner. Your body will relax and work off stress.
