Over-the-top decorations, thousands of sparkly lights and dramatically themed rooms are just the beginning when holiday home decor goes celebrity. Sunday night on HGTV’s Celebrity Holiday Homes, viewers got a chance to follow three stars as they prepared their homes for the holidays. We’ve got an inside look at what three designers drummed up for Wayne Brady, Jo Dee Messina and Alison Sweeney’s holiday decor.
While most of us don’t have the luxury of hiring a designer to decorate our homes for the holidays, we can still draw inspiration from these celeb holiday decor makeovers. Keep reading to check out the results and decide which star’s seasonal decor is your favorite.
Wayne Brady
Designer Stacey Vuduris worked with actor Wayne Brady to turn his Los Angeles home into a Hawaiian-inspired holiday. This theme had the potential to look like a tacky tourist experiment gone wrong, but Vuduris keeps it classy by utilizing lush greenery, gorgeous tropical flowers and tasteful seashell and starfish accents.
Brady seemed genuinely surprised and pleased with the results. Plus, Vuduris scores big points with his daughter Maile for including her tree house in the decorating plan — she adorns the playhouse with candy-inspired pieces that would have most kids swooning.
Jo Dee Messina
Country music star Jo Dee Messina and designer Matthew Haly transformed her Nashville home into a homespun family holiday — making this theme the most natural and personal of the three.
Haly turned what Messina was using as a music room into a gorgeous dining area that literally brought the singer to tears during the reveal. He embellished the space with natural materials like branches and berries while incorporating family photos throughout. Messina was so blown away by Haly’s makeover that she plans on keeping the room as a dining area.
Alison Sweeney
Actress Alison Sweeney gave designer Sandra Espinet carte blanche to decorate her traditional Hollywood Hills home. Espinet’s design featured a purple-themed “Hollywood glam” scheme that used various hues of the non-traditional holiday color throughout the home.
All the decor, from the trees to the tabletops, were decked out in white, purple and silver. This design seemed a bit incompatible with Sweeney’s more traditional taste and overall came off a bit tacky. No matter how you accent an all-purple tree, it still looks a little plastic.
