Whoa. That’s all we can manage to say after seeing the first images from the Jason Wu for Target collection. The popular designer’s upcoming partnership with the retail giant is full of girly — yet bold — pieces that every woman needs in her closet.
Seriously: Jason Wu for Target is that good.
Don’t go into it expecting a cheaper version of his couture collections, though.
“My goal was not to duplicate anything from my main collection,” Wu told the New York Times. “Instead I designed completely new clothes and accessories that reflect my taste and have a voice of their own.”
The 53-piece “gamine chic” collection will hit stores on Feb. 5 with price points ranging from $19 to $60, a nice departure from the 400-plus piece Missoni for Target collection that cost anywhere from $10 to $400 or more.
“To go after something as big and successful as Missoni, I knew I had to come up with a different way to work with Target,” Wu told Style.com of his design strategy. He’s keeping the prices down by “not replicating more expensive materials.” For example, he’s using canvas instead of faux leather.
“The focus isn’t just getting Jason Wu at a lower price point,” he told the website. “It was about creating an entirely new collection that I think my regular customers will enjoy, too.”
We’re fine with that — anything to get a piece of Wu in our closets.
Jason Wu to re-team with Michelle Obama
Wu gained international recognition after he dressed First Lady (and Target shopper!) Michelle Obama in her inaugural ball gown in January 2009. Now, he’s joining Marc Jacobs and other designers to help re-elect Barack Obama in 2012.
The project — Runway to Win — will offer unique pieces to fashionistas with the profits going to the Obama/Biden campaign.
“Runway to Win is a collaborative effort of 22 top American designers who have created special pieces, including T-shirts, tote bags, scarves, a wristlet, in support of the president’s re-election campaign,” said Marti Adams, the Obama/Biden campaign’s Director of Event Communications. “The online store is scheduled to launch on Jan. 12. All proceeds from sales will go to Obama Victory Fund.”
Sounds like it’s going to be a fashionable re-election season!
