The Project Runway designers are officially lighting up our lives! Well, maybe not exactly, but they did use lighting technology to create one of a kind techno gowns. Read on as your resident style guy takes you behind the scenes of this bright and shining episode to dish on its jaw dropping moments, to die for designs (and messes for that matter) and catfights of the night. Ladies, why don’t you grab a cocktail and strut down the runway with me.
Your style guy’s got the scoop
Let’s light up the runway! This week’s challenge really had the designers taking fashion to a new level when they learned they needed to use lighting technology to create an avant-garde look. Plus, in true Project Runway form, style superstar Pharrell would be judging their looks. (Talk about nerve-racking — his star shines brighter than anything in the fashion world!)
This is definitely one of my favorite episodes because within the first few minutes, there was already drama — meaning Mondo called Mr. Porcelain “high maintenance” and a “prima donna.” I’ll be honest. I totally agree. He was sashaying everywhere while shopping for supplies. Keep up the bitchy comments, Mondo… highly entertaining.
When Joanna entered (just as excited about the Pharrell aspect of the challenge as everyone else), she immediately told Mr. Porcelain to make sure his dress “stands out compared to the other four in the room.” Eeeks. Maybe he needs to lose his prima donna attitude. Hint hint.
After Joanna left and Jerell showed Kenley his design, I freaked! He incorporated fiber optic lights! Totally fun, with that perfect hint of crazy! (It reminded me of a character in a parade at Walt Disney World.)
Runway reactions
OK, dim the lights (to the runway black lights) and let’s talk designs!
- Mondo: Club kid in a mini dress going out all night long. An awesome, fun look.
- Jerell: Futuristic native meets The Lion King.
- Michael: A cool ninja alien. Wild!
- Austin:A Midsummer Night’s Dream… on fire. Enchanting.
- Kenley: Nicki Minaj in drop-dead plaid. Super fun. (White plaid with black plaid) pink and green.
The winner? Austin. My winner? Austin as well, but I loved Mondo’s power-girl look as well. The loser? Jerell. Totally fine with me. His look was a mess and he did not deserve to stay. See ya!
My predicted winner after this week’s episode: Mondo
See you next week!
