A look at some of spring’s runway-inspired hair trends

Give your tresses a seasonal update with some of spring’s top hair trends we spied on the runways. Not sure where to start? We have the best in warmer weather looks for your locks.

Pretty ponytails

As we noted on many a spring runway, the classic ponytail is back – and better than ever. Think this is a one-note look? Think again. Gone are the days of mid-height, plain old ponytails. This spring you have options. Opt for slicked back and sporty (as seen at Diesel and Donna Karan), tucked under (picture a pony/bun hybrid) as seen at Marc Jacobs, low and flowing (spied at Ralph Lauren) or high and polished (done perfectly at Temperley).

Style tip: For a fun, flirty twist on a plain ponytail, add some sparkly hair embellishments. A bit of bling can take the hairstyle from day to night in a snap.

Bring on the braids

Braids might remind you of your elementary school hairdo, but this spring, the perennial childhood favorite has gone upmarket. Get ready to take your braids to the office and even out to dinner. From delicate braids twisted around models’ heads at Alexander McQueen to long ropey plaits at Michael Kors, there’s no shortage of inspiration for beautiful braids as the weather warms up.

Style tip: Before you braid, work some light hold styling paste into your hair. The hairstyle will hold and bonus: When you take your hair out, you’ll have sexy, beachy waves.

Structured waves

Move over lazy beach waves, this spring we’re about to see waves with a more structured feel. Less, roll-out-of-bed and more expertly tousled, these on-trend waves were inspired by several runways, including Calvin Klein, Isabel Marant and Givenchy.

Style tip: Simply blow dry roughly, curl subtly with your curling iron and finger comb for the right amount of natural meets structured. Finish with a light mist of medium hold hair spray.

Bold blowouts

Give your look a serious does of glamour with one of spring’s hottest hairstyle trends – big, bold blowouts. Make use of your local blow dry bar and take a cue from various catwalks where models boasted big, beautiful hair. From Versace to Chloe to DKNY, hair was voluminous, bouncy and ultra-feminine.

Style tip: Get the hairstyle at home by applying mousse for hold, set hair in large curlers, dry and tousle.
