Instead of throwing those old wine and beer bottles into the recycling bin, why not upcycle them into something you can use for your garden?
This easy DIY turns empty bottles into homes for potted plants! With a little baker’s twine, you can hang these from trees for fun summer decor or hang them on your porch!
You can’t beat a project that costs you next to nothing to make! Plus, this gives you another reason to drink up that wine and beer (as if you needed one!).
What you’ll need:
- Empty wine and beer bottle
- Baker’s twine or rope
- Soil
- Plants
- Scissors
Step 1: Fill your bottles with soil
After your bottles have been cleaned, fill them about one-third to one-half full with soil.
Because the lip of the bottle is so narrow, you’ll have to use a funnel or small shovel. We used a spoon and it worked great.
Step 2: Wrap twine around head of the bottles
Cut about about 2-1/2 to 3 inches of baker’s twine off the roll. Fold the twine over so that you have two pieces of equal length. Wrap the twine around the neck of the bottle.
Then wrap the twine tightly around the neck of the bottle until the top of the neck is wrapped with twine.
Give the pieces a pull every now and then to ensure they are on as tight as they can be.
Step 3: Hang!
Carefully tie the twine pieces to a heavy branch outside or a hook on your porch.
Then fill with your favorite plants or flowers and enjoy!
