After 20-year-old Canadian tennis player, Eugenie Bouchard, won her match at the Australian Open yesterday, you’d think the focus would have been on her game. But instead, the tennis player was asked to do a “twirl” by a Channel 7 interviewer, who has since been labelled sexist and pervy.

This isn’t the first time a commentator at the Australian Open has been labelled sexist after a chat with Canadian tennis player, Eugenie Bouchard.
Last year, the tennis player was questioned about her love life after advancing into the Australian Open women’s semifinals, the first Canadian to do so in 30-odd years.

But instead of being questioned about her rise to fame, thanks to her unmatched skills on the court, she was asked about who she’d like to date. Not even kidding.
“You’re getting a lot of fans here,” former British tennis champion, Samantha Smith, said. “A lot of them are male, and they want to know: If you could date anyone in the world of sport, of movies — I’m sorry, they asked me to say this — who would you date?”
You can just imagine how uncomfortable that must have been for both Smith and Bouchard. We thought those uncomfortable conversations might have been behind us, but Bouchard has been hit with another sexist encounter on centre court, this time from Channel 7 commentator, Ian Cohen, when he asked the sportswoman, “Can you give us a twirl?”
“Last night you tweeted that you loved Serena’s outfit. Obviously the fluoro is working for you girls at the moment,” Cohen said. “She was kind enough to give us a twirl, can you give us a twirl and tell us about your outfit?” he asked.

Bouchard awkwardly responded with, “A twirl?” before doing a quick spin, while people on social media, including her Canadian fans, were none too impressed, calling the question sexist and pervy.
“We need more people to stand up against sexism,” one fan noted on Twitter. “No one is asking [Roger Federer] to twirl.”
