Waikiki
Perhaps Oahu’s most iconic spot, Waikiki is a tourist mecca with all the amenities of a big city and the incredible Pacific Ocean as its backdrop. Wander down Kalakaua Avenue, the main beachfront road, for more shops, restaurants and bars than you could visit in a week. This stretch is also home to many hotels with oceanviews and luxurious accommodations, including the historic (and very pink) Royal Hawaiian Hotel. Eat at Duke’s Waikiki, a bar and grill located right on the sand and learn all about the legendary Duke Kahanamoku, an Olympic swimmer credited with popularizing surfing. Brave the crowds and go for a swim in the warm waters of Waikiki Beach, where the waves break further out at sea leaving a shallow, calm shore perfect for drifting on a raft. Those with an adventurous side can rent a surfboard and try to catch a wave while those who play it safe can lounge in the sun with a fruity cocktail.
