Shutters are such a unique and stunning way to give your boring white walls or drab living room a stunning makeover. Not only are shutters great statement pieces, they are cheap ones too! You can find vintage, shabby shutters for next to nothing at yard sales and Goodwill, or you can find them for fairly cheap ($25-$50) on Etsy. Forget spending a fortune on artwork, try one of these gorgeous shutter DIYs instead!

DIY shutter wallpaper

If you’re ready for a serious room overhaul, this shutter wallpaper is perfect for you! Made by the extremely talented Laura of Olive and Love, this wallpaper idea is unique, stunning and creates the perfect backdrop for any living space. To make the wall really stand out, she painted the shutters in different colors. Because this wall is so busy and a statement on its own, stick to colors in the pastel or neutral category to avoid an eyesore. The pale blues, light greens and grays in Laura’s wall complements her dark wood furniture exquisitely. This DIY will require more digging to find shutters in all different sizes and can cost you up to $1,000 if you have to buy each one.

What you’ll need:

  • About 40 different-size shutters
  • Colored paint
  • Primer
  • Paintbrush
  • Power drill & drill bits
  • 5/8-inch OSB plywood
  • Table saw
  • Stud finder

If you’re not much of a gardener and don’t want plants in the jars, add some luminarias or potpourri to get the same look and feel. This shutter is an incredible addition to any living room, dining room, sunroom, beach house or even bedroom.

  • Vintage/rustic window shutter
