Make your guest room feel like a hotel suite

Whether you’re visiting family or an exotic location, traveling often causes anxiety and stress. Once you arrive, it’s always a wonderful welcome to have a clean room and a few amenities to help make your stay enjoyable and relaxing. Remember those comforts the next time you prepare a bedroom for guests in your home.

We all occasionally forget a thing or two when traveling, so plan for the unexpected and have a little gift basket or tray stocked with things your guests might need — such as a toothbrush, toothpaste, floss, pain medication, antacid, Band-Aids, a razor, lip balm, shampoo, conditioner or soap.

Sleeping in a different bed can often disturb one’s sleep. So remember to pull out an extra blanket and a few extra pillows so that guests can be warm and comfortable as they drift off into dreamland. Placing a mint on the pillows is also a nice touch.

Be sure to set out enough towels, washcloths and hand towels for each guest. If you can, provide different colored towels for each guest to avoid towel mix-ups!

To make your guests feel extra welcome, provide them with mugs, assorted tea bags, hot cocoa and marshmallows. Or if coffee is more their style, consider giving them the true hotel treatment by providing a handy Keurig® Brewer with an assortment of K-Cup® packs. Guests almost always travel with at least one piece of clothing that needs to be hung up. If you can, provide closet space for guests, but if closet space is at a minimum, an over-the-door hook will do the job. Remember to leave out several hangers for your guests to use.

Unless you are very close, many guests will feel awkward raiding your pantry in the middle of the night for a snack. So leave a gift basket in their bedroom complete with snacks and water bottles so they have a ready-supply of yummy snacks to eat.

If your guest has not visited before or isn’t familiar with the area, leave a Top 10 list of the best things to do in your town. This will give him an opportunity to decide if there are things he wants to see or if he would prefer to just hang out with you.
