There is no doubt that we all love a clean and organized home, but the act of getting it that way can be a bit overwhelming. No need to fret — we have a few tips to make the smallest details count toward the overall goal of organization.
Upcycle chic
The new DIY trend is upcycling, or taking an old item and making it new again. Upcycle old coffee cans by painting them or covering them with scrapbook paper and Mod Podge, and then using them for pens and markers in the craft room. Clean out baby food jars to hold smaller trinkets, such as pins or gems. An old window shutter can be a great addition for hanging children’s artwork, reminders or mail.
Basket boho
Large baskets can be a great addition to any room. Use a large, square basket with a pattern that complements your bedroom decor to hold throw pillows and other miscellaneous items. An oval basket would look awesome in any corner in the family room to hold those extra blankets for wintertime snuggles. If you are in need of extra storage space in the bathroom, add towels and toilet paper in a basket in the corner.
Decorative storage
Need a place to put toys or reading material in the living room? Find decorative storage such as benches, storage cubes or storage coffee tables to hold these miscellaneous items. Tuck the storage cubes under a desk or at the foot of a bed for a modern look in your home.
Pretty in plastic
Using plastic bins is one of the easiest ways to organize your home. Great for toys, bathroom essentials and extra items, plastic bins are an inexpensive way to keep your home neat and tidy. They can be used to store various medicines, women’s hygiene items and extra toothpaste in an organized linen closet.
The multifunctional coat rack
The coat rack has been a staple in homes for years, but now there are so many more ways to use it than just for boring old coats. Hang one in the garage to store outdoor tools, such as rakes and brooms, or put one in the pantry for mops and brooms. You could also use a small coat rack in your bathroom for necklaces and bracelets, or hang one a few inches from the floor for great shoe storage.
DIY Tip
Make your own coat rack by purchasing a 4 x 4 piece of wood, painting it white and attaching hooks. It will be simple, inexpensive and very chic.
