One maternity tee styled three ways

Pregnant or not, the basic t-shirt is an eternal wardrobe staple. I always suggest shopping for a few key maternity pieces and mixing them with items already in your closet so you can get through those nine months without a huge spend. For example, pair the tee with a structured jacket, bold jewelry or the perfect shoe and you can easily create fresh, stylish outfits for several different occasions.

Let’s start with this turquoise top from my Target collection and I’ll show you how to transform it for the office, a night out and weekend errands. It’s an elevated version of a basic tee with fashion-forward details like flutter sleeves and an asymmetrical hem that make it flattering and super-versatile.

For the office

Timex Bi-Metal expansion band watch (Target, $40)

A timeless (no pun intended) menswear accessory that’s all business elevates the outfit from casual to sophisticated.

Schoolboy blazer in wool flannel (J. Crew, $198)

A tailored blazer paired with a black pant adds polish and professionalism. You won’t be able to button it, of course, but blazers look more modern when left open anyway.

Double-handle tote (Danielle Nicole, $89)

To complete the look, you can’t go wrong with a structured, work-appropriate carryall. Plus, there’s plenty of room to stash diapers and pacifiers once the baby is born!

For date night

Pendant necklace (Shopbob, $275)

A sparkly pendant necklace is fun, statement-making and, most importantly, one-size-fits-all. Go ahead, splurge on a few items to reward yourself for those nine months. You’ll be able to wear them long after.

Wow-factor boots (Bloomingdale’s, $349)

Sky-high pumps are neither practical nor comfortable for a mom-to-be. Instead, opt for a great boot or wedge with a low, stacked heel to give the outfit a dramatic touch. Wear them over a dressy legging for a comfortable, sleek look.

Metallic clutch (Shopbob, $295)

Diane von Furstenberg Sphere Metallic Tweed Clutch: For the final touch to dress up that bump, rock a metallic clutch to really make the outfit say “night time.”

For the weekend

Stone long cardigan (Wallis, $52)

Give your favorite casual jeans-and-tee combo a sophisticated touch with this cozy cardigan from your pre-maternity collection.

Skimmer ballet flats (Nordstrom, $395)

Trust me, when you’re on your feet all day it’s all about comfort, comfort, comfort. Invest in chic, neutral flats that will go with everything.

Steven Alan print scarf (Steven Alan, $249)

A lightweight scarf draws attention up to your face and is an essential on-off layering piece for regulating your rising body temperature.
