Emmy Rossum is admittedly one of my celeb girl crushes. The gal is just so darn multitalented, beautiful and humble, so really, what’s not to like?! Recently, Emmy made jaws drop when she showed up to a charity event in NYC rocking a high-low beaded LBD and this sleek ‘do.
There’s something so undeniably sexy about a slicked back look like this, and it’s perfect for a number of upcoming special events you might be heading to this season.
I asked Nick Penna Jr., owner and lead stylist of SalonCapri, to break down the look for you. Happy styling!

“Emmy’s style is clean and elegant,” Penna says. Before you start styling, keep in mind that this style is easiest for fine or thick hair that is naturally straight. If you’ve got naturally curly locks, like Emmy’s, the look is certainly within reach, but it’ll take a bit more time to ensure a sleek finish.
- Firsts things first! Spray a good volumizer on roots of shampooed, towel-dried hair. This helps to provide the hair with added body, bounce and hold, without any buildup. Nick uses L’Oreal Professionnel Volume Expand Leave in Spray.
- Next, add a dollop of Shu Uemura Satin Design White Tea Polishing Milk to restore luster and provide humidity resistance before blow drying hair straight with a paddle brush.
- With a fine-toothed comb, comb back the top part of hair from ear to ear and pin in the back. For an added boost of volume, push hair up slightly before pinning.
