Some of my best memories growing up are playing putt putt golf, or miniature golf, with my friends and family. You’re guaranteed to get in a few good laughs (I know I’m not the only one who’s accidentally thrown the golf club or hit the ball well beyond the hole) while enjoying the fresh air and great company. We took a few things into consideration in regards to what qualities make for a great mini golf course — including setup and design, landscaping and of course, the location! What makes it great:King Putt is indoors, family-oriented, affordable and takes place in a jungle-like setting.

Additional features: At King Putt, you can do more than just golf. Stop by the arcade, watch a magician, throw a birthday party for your kid and enjoy delicious snacks and ice cream all in one day.

Best time to go: It’s indoors — so any time of year works perfectly.

What makes it great:Molten Mountain sits on the base of a volcano and provides a lush, tropical atmosphere. There are special effects galore and plenty of exciting twists throughout the course.

Additional features: Molten Mountain features two separate courses — one indoors (Lava Louie’s Challenge) and one that’s outdoors (Pele’s Revenge). Both feature interesting facts about volcanoes throughout the courses.

Best time to go: Peak season at Myrtle Beach is March through September.

What makes it great:Golfland Sunsplash combines two incredibly fun activities — golf and swimming into one jam-packed day of family fun and excitement. The waterpark is open through September and mini golf is played year-round.

Additional features: This park has it all — laser tag, bumper boats, over 30 exciting rides, an arcade and plenty of food and snacks.

Best time to go: If you’re just looking to play golf, October through March provides the most comfortable weather.

What makes it great: There are five locations of Smugglers Cove throughout Florida and all feature rushing waters, caves, pirates and a tropical terrain.

Additional features: Real-life alligators you can feed!

Best time to go: All locations are open 365 days per year. Though Florida summers can be humid, you should be fine if you go in the morning.

What makes it great:Lexington Ice Center has the best miniature golf course in Kentucky. It’s a real-life Garden of Eden and it features three courses that are all biblically themed.

Additional features: Three courses to choose from — the Old Testament, New Testament or the Miracles course.

Best time to go: Spring is the best, since summer is humid and winter is snowy. Call ahead if the weather is cold or rainy to make sure the course isn’t closed.

What makes it great: Unlike all the other courses, is mellow and beautiful. Come here to relax and enjoy the beauty of the outdoors.

Additional features: Randall’s mini golf course features 36 holes and is challenging, but fun for everyone. There’s also a beer garden, patio grill and batting cages.

Best time to go: Winters are brutal, so we recommend visiting in the spring or summer. If the weather is questionable, call ahead.

What makes it great:Camelot Golfland is the nation’s largest miniature golf course featuring four separate golf courses.

Additional features: Laser tag, an arcade and a go-kart track.

Best time to go: Camelot is open year-round, with peak season being May through September.

What makes it great:Family Fun Center is a family fun center featuring an 18-hole indoor and outdoor pirate-themed miniature golf course.

Additional features: In addition to golf, you and your family can play laser tag, ride bumper cars and bumper boats or try your luck at the batting cages and more.

Best time to go: Summer is the best — be warned there can still be significant amounts of rain.
