Sometimes called the belladonna lily, amaryllis are tropical bulb plants, and they don’t do well in cold weather. Keep your potted amaryllis indoors until temperatures break in the spring. Make sure they receive bright light and even water.

Caring for amaryllis during its blooming and growing seasons is just like caring for many other indoor plants. To ensure your amaryllis reblooms for the next holiday season, bring the plant outdoors in springtime and place it in a sunny location for the growing season.

During its dormant season, however, is when things get interesting.Bring the plant back indoors before fall frost, place in a cool location, and (despite your gardening inclinations) do not water it for two months. After the two-month dry spell, move the plant will to a warm location and begin watering as normal. Your amaryllis will begin to grow again and bloom.
