DIY Stepping Stones

Making your own stepping stones is a low-cost way to add some artistic flair to your garden or backyard water feature. If you have leftover concrete from a previous project, why not put it to good use as an accent for your garden?
Making your own stepping stones is a low-cost way to add some artistic flair to your garden or backyard water feature. If you have leftover concrete from a previous project, why not put it to good use as an accent for your garden?

Create a mold for your stepping stones using a five-gallon bucket. Just cut around the top of the bucket under the handle to create an open cylinder that’s about five inches tall. If you have extra buckets, make a few molds to speed up the project.

Set the mold on top of a sheet of plywood. If you’d like, you can toss in and arrange some colorful pebbles inside the mold to create a decorative facade for the stepping stones.  Pour the prepared concrete into the mold, and shake it to help it settle. Use a trowel to level the surface, then let it dry for about four days. Once the concrete is cured, slide the mold away to reveal your homemade stepping stones.
