With October practically over, it really is just about time to get into winter garden mode. Before you get ready for a few months of indoor hibernation, there are a few more things to take care of outdoors…
Here are a few reminders for those last garden chores to take care of before frost and snow become the norm:
- t
- Harvest what’s left in your garden. It’s better to bring them in early than lose them entirely!
- Prepare your bird feeders. Birds will be depending on you for food when cool weather eliminates most of the other sources. Try a homemade bird food blend to give them a special treat.
- Find your snow shovel. It’s probably in the back of your garage or garden shed. Bring it to the front so it’s ready to use when you need it.
- Bring ceramic, plastic or glass pots indoors if they are at risk of cracking under cold temperatures.
- Detach and put away your garden hose so it doesn’t burst from water left inside.
- Keep an eye on the weather forecast so you’re ready to protect tender plants from a frost.
