Socially responsible companies always make me feel better about the state of things. It’s nice to know that even a large company, like Kraft Foods, supports the efforts that gardeners like us are doing in our own backyards. The Triscuit Home Farming Movement is one way that “big business” is promoting sustainability and healthier lives.

Triscuit’s Home Farming website provides resources for home farmers, ranging from experts to novices. The online community offers Q&A support, advice, guides and recipes. The community challenges home farmers to have some fun with interactive features, including photo share, home farm maps and badges for your progress. Take advantage of the other resources they offer, including online journals and farm planning tools. They even offer a smartphone app so you can update and track your farm progress when you’re away from the keyboard.
In my opinion, the most commendable action is Triscuit’s partnership with non-profit organization Urban Farming, whose mission is to “create an abundance of food for people in need by planting farms on unused land and space while increasing diversity, educating youth, adults and seniors and providing an environmentally sustainable system to uplift communities.” When you register with Triscuit Home Farming, you become part of Urban Farming’s Global Food Chain, which creates more awareness and support for this valuable organization.
