Father’s Day card with envelope
Use these step-by-step instructions to make a unique Father’s Day card, the iDad, for the special guy in your life.
iDad Father’s Day card supplies
2 pieces of 8.5” x 11” black cardstock or construction paper, 1 piece of 8.5” x 11” white cardstock or copy paper, X-acto knife and scissors, cutting mat, newspaper, spray glue & glue stick, images of icons, optional: photos, large envelope
Print the iDad card templates
Print templates 1 & 2 and cut out the front and back pieces of the card (the black cardstock/construction paper) with template 1. Use template 2 to cut out the inside of the card (using the white cardstock/paper). Glue the white piece to one of the black pieces and set it aside
Glue the icons
We bought these icons on iStockphoto.com. You could also do a Google image search for some – look for Medium size images for better quality. Save and import them into a Word doc, reducing them to consistent size (about 1.5” x 1.5”). If you are going to put photos underneath your flaps, assemble them the same way and the same size you did the icons.
Let the glue set
Let the glued on icons dry for a couple of minutes.
Cut around the icons
With a cutting mat underneath, cut around the two sides and the bottom of each icon with an X-acto knife, creating lift-up flaps with the icons.
All the icons should now be flaps
Continue until you have cut around all of the icons. Every icon on the iDad card should work as a lift-up flap.
Gather your photos for the bottom piece of the card.
These photos will show up under the flaps you just cut.
Line up the two pieces and trace the holes
Line up the top and the bottom pieces of the card (without gluing them), and trace around the inside of the flap to mark where you will glue the photos that will appear underneath the flaps.
Glue the photos
Set the top piece of the card aside, and on the bottom piece, glue the photos down over the squares you just traced, leaving the last three squares for your Father’s Day message.
Erase pencil marks
Erase the pencil marks around the photos.
Add a message
Write your Father’s Day messages in the last three squares.
Erase remaining marks
When the photos and messages are done, erase all remaining pencil marks. The bottom of the iDad Father’s Day card should now be free of stray marks.
Get ready to glue the top and bottom
Use a glue stick (not spray glue) to glue the top piece of the Father’s Day card to the bottom piece.
Add glue around the flaps
Make sure to glue around the flaps, so that you don’t accidentally glue any of them shut.
Line the two pieces of the card up
Your flaps and photos/drawings underneath should line up perfectly.
Add the button
To finish the card, trace around a dime for the home button.
Outline the circle
Use a white gel pen or Sharpie to draw the circle/button.
The envelope
Print out the envelope template on a colorful piece of paper. If using black paper, print out the template on white paper, place it on top of a black piece of paper and cut around the “iDad” letters.
Cut out the letters for the envelope
Cut out the inside of the “iDad” letters with an X-acto knife.
Glue the letters to the envelope
Glue the letters to the front of the large envelope.
Finished Father’s Day card and envelope
Your iDad card is now ready to give for Father’s Day!
