Amazon Handmade Is the Artsy Site You’re Not Shopping But Should

Party planning and in search of custom, on-trend, personalized invitations, favors and decorations? On the hunt for a unique, high-quality, hand-made gift? Need a pop culture birthday card for your friend obsessed with The Office, Friends or any Bravo show? Then head to — say it with us now — Amazon Handmade! Wait, did you think we’d say Etsy?

The ever-popular e-commerce site, Etsy, was, for years, virtually everyone’s go-to online shop for unique finds. But, Amazon quietly launched Amazon Homemade way back in 2015, a whole subsection of the site dedicated to personalized items — from clothing, shoes and accessories to home decor, pet supplies, wedding essentials, party favors and more — made by thousands of verified artisans from around the globe. The difference? Many of the Amazon Handmade products qualify for Amazon Prime, meaning quicker, sometimes two-day shipping. Surprisingly, most people have no idea this section of Amazon exists.

Amazon Handmade also ensures they aren’t selling its customers, for lack of a better term, utter crap. Amazon’s audit process ensures it curates and builds a shop of genuinely handcrafted goods, so shoppers can breathe easy knowing they won’t receive, for lack of a better term, crap products. Plus, artisans who qualify for Handmade can create their shop and list their products for free on Amazon. And for every sale, Handmade will deduct a 15 percent referral fee.

“Customers were searching for hand-crafted items on Amazon thousands of times a day prior to launching in 2015 — clearly they were telling us that they wanted the selection and opportunity to shop for genuinely handmade products,” Katie Harnetiaux, global leader of Amazon Handmade, tells SheKnows. “Nearly five years later, Amazon Handmade continues to offer customers the selection they’re looking for with all the benefits they love about Amazon including fast, free delivery with Prime.”
