Trader Joe’s is our go-to for groceries, greeting cards and even flowers, but when it comes to beauty, are their products really as good as the rest of our Trader Joe’s favorites? I couldn’t help but wonder (yes, please read that in your best Carrie Bradshaw voice), what would happen if I switched to an all-Trader-Joe’s beauty routine to really put their products to the test?
I decided to shelve my usual face wash, serums and moisturizers and head to Trader Joe’s to pick up an entirely new skincare line and test these products out for myself. Luckily, all of Trader Joe’s beauty products are super affordable so I was able to do it all for around $70. After a little over a month of using only Trader Joe’s products on my face and a few on my hair, there was one product that really stood out as the best and has become a permanent fixture in my beauty routine. But before we get to that one, let’s discuss some of the other products I tried.

Blueberry & Acai Facial Scrub
This scrub smells great and overall I enjoyed it, but I never noticed a big difference in the appearance of my skin. The scrub was a bit too coarse for my personal preference and it never harmed my skin or caused a breakout but I wouldn’t purchase it again.
Hair Serum
I have very fine and curly hair that gets frizzy easily. The first time I tried this I used way too much and my hair looked oily. A little goes a long way and I would definitely recommend only using this from the middle of your hair down to the ends and not getting any near your roots.
When applied to dry hair, it did a decent job of taming frizz and when applied to wet hair, it added noticeable shine.
Ultra Hydrating Gel Moisturizer
This label is misleading because I did not find this product to be ultra-hydrating at all. In fact, even in the summer when my skin is most naturally moisturized, I had to apply two coats of this gel for my skin to feel completely moisturized. I wouldn’t buy this one again.
Face Wash
Because this is oil-based, I worried that it would cause a breakout or clog my pores but I was pleasantly surprised. It didn’t leave my face oily and had a nice, earthy scent to it.
Micellar Wipes
These are decent wipes and do a pretty good job of removing makeup. I don’t wear a lot of makeup so there isn’t a ton to take off but I was pleased with these and they didn’t leave my skin feeling dry. The only complaint I had was that the cloths are super thin. I usually use the Kirkland makeup removing wipes from Costco and those are much thicker. I’ll probably go back to Kirkland just because I prefer the thicker wipe but if you want a thinner wipe, these are a great option.
Watermelon Facial Mist & Overnight Mask
I can’t say the facial mist worked any miracles on my skin but it is a great and refreshing step to your routine. It’s also nice to spray on your face mid-day to revitalize your skin and give you a dewy look.
The overnight mask seemed identical to Glow Recipe’s watermelon mask. So if you’ve tried that one and liked it, you’ll probably like this one. The scent is nice and light and it does add quite a bit of extra moisture to your skin.
Honey Mango Shave Cream
I wasn’t expecting to be blown away by shaving cream but boy, was I. This has a subtle but completely delicious scent and it left my skin feeling smooth, soft and moisturized.
Microdermabrasion Scrub
This is a much better product than the blueberry and acai scrub! The scrub is much finer and does a much better job of exfoliating your skin. I used this twice a week and my skin was noticeably brighter after each use. I will definitely be purchasing this one again in the future.
Moisture Boost Serum
This serum is…fine? It’s not bad but I’ve used serums that work a lot better than this one. It’s very light so it’s nice for summer when you don’t want a lot of heavy products and it’s easy to add products on top of this serum without getting pills on your skin but I probably would skip this one next time.
Rose Facial Oil
I was kind of hesitant to even pick this one up because facial oils have wreaked havoc on my face in the past but you guys, this was hands down the best product I tried from Trader Joe’s and I can’t imagine a skincare routine without it now. I put it on right after washing and exfoliating my face and then layer on my serum and moisturizer. This oil is so moisturizing but light at the same time and it absorbs quickly. There have been several days where I just use this oil and some SPF and run out the door because it provides all of the moisture I need during the summer.
It costs just under $6 and is the best facial oil I have used to date. Run to Trader Joe’s right now and stock up!
