The 2016 Neiman Marcus Christmas Book is here and with it, their insane fantasy gift guide. Let’s have a look!
His or hers costume trunks
Choose from a MacKenzie-Childs trunk ($5,000) filled with Disney princess costumes or male superhero costumes for a very gender-specific gift. Maybe for a little extra, you could have the trunk painted yellow and throw both sets of costumes in there together.
Couture diary
Artist Abigail Vogel will hand paint 20 of your most treasured ensembles in this couture diary ($10,000). And I’m assuming if you don’t have any Alexander McQueen hanging in your closet, that would include your favorite flannel pajamas with matching Ugg slippers or last year’s party dress from Zara that you love so much you’re thinking of wearing it again this season. Bound in red or black Scandinavian calfskin and personalized in 24-karat gold.
Texas guitar trio
Three very special guitars($5,000 each), originally commissioned to the specifications of Lyle Lovett, Steve Miller or Billy Gibbons, have been recreated as gifts. But that’s not all — your guitar hero will receive their gift backstage at the musician’s concert. If you ask me, this may be the coolest gift on the list. No joke.
Iris Apfel trunk
Clearly, I spoke too soon because this — this — my friends, has to be the coolest gift. First of all, you get a personal styling session and lunch with the 94-year-old style icon, Iris Apfel. And then you get an Ikat-embellished trunk filled with vintage geegaws and accessories “handcrafted by women globally” and inspired by Apfel’s collection ($80,000).
P.S.: This is a trunk big enough for Iris to sit in, which for New Yorkers, means it could double as your new studio apartment — in fact, situated in a park, it’s your summer house.
World View balloon expedition
Go into space (or at least near space) inside the luxury pressurized cabin of a high-altitude balloon ($90,000). Your adventure begins at the Miraval Resort in Tuscon, Arizona, with the flight’s chase and recovery team. Then you’ll tour Biosphere 2 with original crewmembers and World View CEO Jane Poynter. In case you’re worried about that high-altitude balloon ride, there will be snacks, booze and a bathroom, so you’ll be just fine.
Mustang convertible
Perhaps you know someone who needs a new car? Consider the limited-edition Neiman Marcus Mustang convertible ($95,000) with 700-plus supercharged horsepower that takes you 0 to 60 mph in the amount of time it takes you to sneeze. And the recipient gets to tear around the Force Racing School Course for two days before it becomes the vehicle they use to go grocery shopping.
Bourbon adventure
This gift includes a three-night trip for six to the Stitzel-Weller Distillery in Kentucky, where guests will taste rare bourbons found in old distilleries and create two custom bourbon blends. They’ll get to take home 24 bottles of eight different rare Orphan Barrel bourbons and their custom blends in a bespoke cabinet with barware and leather-bound book ($125,000). Hangover eggs not included.
Breakfast with Keanu Reeves
So, the important information here is that the recipient of this gift will have breakfast with Keanu Reeves at Shutters on the Beach in Santa Monica, and then meet him again and, I think, travel together through the Angeles Crest National Forest. Oh yeah, and there’s a ride through the Santa Monica mountains on a limited-edition motorcycle designed by Keanu and his business partner, which you get to keep. The motorcycle, not Keanu. Well, that’s up to him, really ($150,000).
Insider’s tour of Venice and Florence
The recipient of this grand gift gets to take three guests on a weeklong tour through Venice and Florence guided by jewelry designer Ippolita Rostagno ($150,000). You’ll get VIP museum and artisan studio tours, and yes, that includes a Murano glass workshop. You’ll feast on Italian food. And if you’re smart, you’ll go off-season when there are fewer tourists around because there is nothing like Venice in December just before the holidays. Just a suggestion. Will somebody please buy this for me?
Epic 12-day Indian oddessy
Bombay. Jaipur. Delhi. Udaipur. The Taj Mahal. See them all on this amazing luxury journey, which if I were organizing it, would include a hired helicopter because traffic in all these locations is horrific. But that aside, Holy Ganesh! This whirlwind trip through Rajasthan and Bollywood has just about everything you’d want to experience on a trip to India. That said, having actually traveled to these cities (on a normal person budget), $400,000 seems a tad steep for two people for 12 days, even at the luxury level. Contact a travel agency and they could probably swing something similar for a tenth the price. But I don’t mean to be such a spoiler — honestly, if this gift landed in my Christmas stocking, I’d start packing immediately.
