You’re happy with living your life as a single woman when the wedding invitations start rolling in. Every day someone is announcing a wedding. The invitations are coming fast and hard, even from people you didn’t know were dating anyone. All of a sudden, you realize you are the last single woman standing.
You’re not getting married, you aren’t engaged and you can’t even remember the last time you went on a good date. That’s enough to make a girl want to grab some Ben & Jerry’s, a bottle of wine and turn off her cell phone. But hold on, because there is a light at the end of the tunnel. You’re in a better position than you know; it’s just time to change your perspective.
The great thing about being single is it gives you the opportunity to be selective and get it right. There are people who end up in relationships and get married because they feel that’s the next step. In other words, they give in to the pressure. But some of those marriages last for only a few years or maybe even for a few months, and we all know at least one woman who got a divorce before even paying off her wedding.
It often seems like there’s a double standard when it comes to marriage and women. For example, men like George Clooney can stay single and no one will question it. On the other hand, people and the media continue to wonder why Jennifer Aniston can’t find love. Meanwhile, she’s doing what Clooney does — dating a hottie for a short period of time and then trading said hottie in for another. I say, you go girl!
There are women like Kim Kardashian who want to be married so badly that they fall in love with everyone that they date, with a wedding being the goal. That’s all good for some women, but it does not work for all. More women are choosing to be single, so if you find yourself without a partner, you’re in good company. Women like Kim Cattrall, Dana Delany, Madonna, Jennifer Aniston and Cameron Diaz rock being single to the fullest, so take some tips from them.
Instead of letting questions about your own nuptials set off a pile of tears, make a pact with yourself to know that your true love is on the way. The love that you deserve will find you when the time is right. As mother always said, “Be bad by yourself.” Keep loving yourself, so when the right person comes along, they will add even more love to your world.
Remember that it’s not the wedding that gives you the love of your life — it is the relationship itself. Whether your goal is a diamond ring with a big fat wedding or to simply find your soul mate, be happy with your choice no matter what’s happening around you. You bring about what you think about. Focus that energy on love, and before you know it, it shall be right in front of you.
