If you think Feb. 14 is all about roses, chocolates, going out to dinner and exchanging “I Love Yous,” you’re wrong! This Valentine’s Day, think outside of the box and have a little fun with one of these cool ideas.
Take a class
Good for: Singles, couples, groups
What it is: There are plenty of activity options for friends and couples to take advantage of this Valentine’s Day. I promise you, in each of your local cities, there’s a place to take some cooking classes, enjoy some wine while attempting to paint and other creative-type fun.
Enjoy a lobster dinner
Good for: Singles, couples, groups
What it is:Harry and David offers people an alternative to going out on Valentine’s Day. Lobster for Two is a gourmet dinner that includes lobster bisque soup, lobster risotto and two chocolate cakes. If you’re entertaining a group, order as necessary!
The Tennessee Aquarium’s “Uncensored”
Good for: Singles, couples, groups
What it is: While I realize not all of our readers are in Tennessee, this activity was too good not to share! Tennessee Aquarium educators entertain guests for a night while they ask the questions they were too embarrassed to ask before: How on earth does a sea star make babies? How exactly did a sperm whale get its name? Ever wanted to watch an animal actually mate? Valentine’s Day at the Tennessee Aquarium is the time to ask your taboo questions over after-dinner hors d’oeuvres and cocktails.
Take a bubble bath
Good for: Singles, couples
What it is: Look, this might not sound like a “date,” but it is with yourself (or each other). A bubble bath turns off the world around you and allows you to enjoy the present moment. Very rarely do we bring our phones, laptops, iPads, etc. into the bathtub with us. The sensuality of the warm water within a candlelit environment is the ultimate in relaxation. So grab some Champagne, dim the lights and truly let go.
Themed-night
Good for: Singles, couples, groups
What it is: Have yourself a merry little themed night on Feb. 14. Take India for example: Raga music, incense, Sanskrit poetry and Indian food. Heck, throw in a Bollywood movie and you’re set for the night! Don’t forget to dress the part in your saris!
Learn something new
Good for: Singles, couples, groups
What it is: My friends at CourseHorse provide an online resource for finding and enrolling in all types of amazing local learning opportunities. While there are obviously more options to choose from than sex-related courses, you can always opt for The Art of Oral Sex or Moregasm: Guide to Mind Blowing Sex.
Spa day
Good for: Singles, couples, groups
What it is: Why not indulge in a spa experience with a day full of Champagne, pampering, facials, waxing, tanning, manicures, pedicures — the works?! Grab your girlfriends (or your boyfriends) and head out to your local spa to de-stress and rejuvenate. Bonus: There will be plenty of appointments open!
