Celebrities are certainly no strangers to steamy and often naughty late nights, but now Hollywood couples are partaking in this taboo behavior together. Rihanna and Drake went to V Live Gentlemen’s club in Houston together where they enjoyed a romantic night out complete with lap dances. And they’re just one of many celebrity couples who have included a little strip club action into an average date night.
Katy Perry and John Mayer also dropped some serious cash at a Santa Barbara strip club recently and even posed with the scantily clad dancers. Could these spicy nights be a sign of a hot trend or danger in a relationship?
The good
Heading to a strip club might seem like a great idea to spice things up in the R&B stars’ relationship, but what about the average Joe with a couple of $20 bills? “Going to a strip club with your significant other can be good,” says relationship expert on VH1’s Couple’s Therapy, Dr. Jenn Berman. “It can be sexy and really stir up the sexual appetite for a couple.”
Even if you aren’t making it rain in the Champagne room, some couples find it can be a fun step away from the mundane. “It can be super sexy getting a lap dance and watching your boyfriend get a lap dance too,” says Jennifer Marie who has gone to strip clubs with boyfriends. “But, you have to be in the right mindset. You have to feel confident, not be in a bad mood and not be arguing beforehand. That only creates problems later on.”
When a handful of guys were asked for their take on the sexy situation, they had similar responses. “Going to a strip club with a girlfriend can make the sex afterwards so much better,” said one gent who did not want to be named. “You have to be totally confident that the girl is going to have fun with it though.”
The bad
How do you really know if watching some bare-breasted ladies with your man will create a night headed toward passion or disaster? “If there are any jealousy or body image issues, it can make for a really uncomfortable situation and lead to larger problems,” says Dr. Berman. “Avoid situations like that if you even think there might be a problem.”
Even Jennifer agrees, “It is hard to watch another woman’s boobs in your boyfriend’s face, so you have to make sure you’re both on the same page and there’s no mistrust in the relationship.”
It’s not all the woman’s decision though; men have issues with sharing the salacious experience too. “Some guys are uncomfortable having their wives or girlfriends around,” adds the mystery man. “It can be something he wants to do in private and not have his significant other involved.”
The DIY strip club
If jealousy is a potential problem and you want to skip Rihanna and Drake’s way of dating, don’t worry because there are still plenty of ways to spice up the night right at home. “Try reading something erotic together or watching porn if you’re not comfortable having a real person involved,” Dr. Berman suggests. “This creates a safe barrier, while still having that exciting element to your sex life.”
