Let’s face it: Weddings are ridiculously expensive. This couple is getting theirs for pennies, though, thanks to corporate America.
The average wedding tab now clocks in at an astounding $28,858. Yes, that includes everything along with saying ‘I do,’ including food, location and the dress, but that’s still a bigger bill than most betrothed couples can handle.
To put it in perspective, the average American is carrying around student loan debt that hovers around $29,000, meaning couples are spending just as much on their weddings as their college degrees.
Well, every couple except Courtney McKenzie and her fiancé Jamil, that is.

The Florida-based pair is funding their Thailand destination wedding by enlisting the help of sponsors. For a price, they’re willing to sew sponsor logos on the wedding dress, tuxedo and even McKenzie’s honeymoon bikini.
“We will be hashtagging, tweeting and Instagramming our way through Thailand to our over 30,000 combined social media followers and we want to include some of our favorite brands in our adventure,” she wrote on their website.
Their goal is to not spend anything out of pocket for their exotic wedding adventure, but they’ve only raised about half of the $30,000 tab through three sponsors. McKenzie is positive that they’ll eventually reach their goal — and she’s planning on launching a new business helping other brides to do the same.
Of course, there are plenty of haters.
“I’ve gotten a lot of emails saying, ‘This is so tacky,’ ‘How can you put a logo on your wedding dress?’ ‘Your daughter will never be able to wear your dress,'” she told Cosmopolitan.com. “It stings a bit. But we feel good about it. And it’ll be a fun story to tell our kids.”
Tell us: Is this tacky, or a great way to have a fun wedding?
