Family approval is not always necessary in a marriage, but it sure does help. For filmmaker Tyler Shelton, the opportunity to ask for that from his fiancée Haylee Rose’s father passed when her father did last year. So he did something else.
In a beautiful and touching video, Shelton proposes to Rose, but not before he talks to her brother and sister and incorporates her late father in the sweetest way possible. There won’t be a dry eye in the house after this. See below:

The two had been together seven years, so Haylee was lucky in that her future husband knew and loved her father. There is something so comforting in that, and these two are going to have a long and happy life together if they are this connected and present for each other now.

As someone who also lost a parent long before my own proposal and wedding 13 years ago, I feel for this couple. My husband also incorporated my mother into his proposal. She used to always make me scavenger hunts as I was growing up. He did the same. It was so sweet and so emotional, and I loved it.

Not everyone wants “sad” reminders at their wedding or on the day they are asked to marry someone, so it is really about our beloved knowing us well enough to know what kind of person we are. I am the kind of person who wanted that. It seems like Haylee Rose is too. And the result is something beautiful she can cherish forever and share with her children. It won’t bring her father back, but it’s the next best thing. I wish them all the happiness in the world.
