It may be the season where everyone is getting engaged (most of our Facebook feeds are testament to this), but one Reddit user is doing something a little different with an engagement ring.

On Sunday, Sydney Reddit user known as what_choice took to the site to share an advert about his former fiancée’s engagement ring, explaining that he would like to give it away in a bid to bring someone else joy.
“I have decided to give away my old engagement ring. I have only heard horror stories of people trying to sell their rings and being insulted with sub-par offers from pawn shops, jewellers etc. and thought I would attempt to pass it on to a deserving couple,” what_choice wrote, ensuring readers knew that it was not a “ploy or a fake.”
“It’s a nice ring and I wish for it to bring happiness and joy,” he added.

The user then went on to reveal that he got the idea from another post (one by EightySixxed), and that he was hoping it would work the same way, urging couples to tell him why they “would like the ring and to get married” as well as providing “proof you are a couple.”
He then shared two pictures of the beautiful ring, which he plans to hand over in person.
Wow. This is hardly something you read everyday, and the post has been overwhelmed by comments.
Uzorglemon wrote, “What you’re doing is really amazing, thank you!” before going on to explain their own struggles with initially finding a ring and hoping that what_choice would find a “suitable recipient.”
“Single lady here, so I totally don’t need this, but what a lovely gesture. I hope you find someone perfect for it and get repaid in real life karma and happiness. Sounds like you’ve earned it!” coffeeandarabbit shared.
While RuinedAmnesia echoed those sentiments, writing, “That does look like a beautiful ring! I hope you find the right person to give this to!”
